The STO Amusing Moments Picture Thread

I see that you have wallpaper contest threads. That is certainly a cool thing.

But as someone who came over from CO, where we have a lot of fun posting pics of oddities we cap from or game, I was wondering if you guys have an Amusing Moments Picture thread like it. If you don't, would we be allowed to create one?

The general idea would be that any player would cap an odd looking moment from the game and then post it, either with an amusing remark or without for others to add an amusing remark.

Example:

Edit - I was finally able to change the thread Header! :)

Hey guys, I want to see everyone's maps from in-progress missions here.

Whether you're trying out things on a conceptual level or putting the finishing touches on your latest opus, I want to see what you've got.

I'll start us off. I've been playing around with some concepts of a space map inside a Fed space facility like ESD. Need to see what works best for the walls, and what would work for a floor/ceiling.

[PC] 23rd Century R&D Promotion!

Why does it seem like.....

All these promotions are rigged? Same player getting the top prize in each promotion. I know of another player that since the game has first came out, has never gotten a top prize despite sinking a lot of money trying. While another player can spend a fraction of the money and get multiple copies of said top prize. Makes me question if I should even bother trying. I know I am not the only player out there questioning this. Or experienced this. Call as spade a spade because it is starting to look that way from my prospective too.
At least prevent the same player from getting top prize over and over. If they get one, they can do as they wish with it. Let other players get better then zero chance. I am not just talking for me, but for all the other players in the same boat as me.

T6 Miranda Class missing outfit parts.

With last Thursday there should have come not only the incredibly beautiful cage Conny and the wonderful new hull design for the TME refit.
No you also promised us a Sajous class costume for the T6 Miranda.
And i was AMPED fo her!

So i have looked, even discharged and newly opened my T6 Miranda class from my T6 advanced LC bundle.
But i still "only have", the beta skin, the Miranda TME, the TNG one and your own design from when the game started.
The Saratoga design looks nice, but i wanted that Big Guntower on her back to.
If that isn't a Bug or missing program part, how do i unlock it?

BTW why aren't the Nacelles lit purple on the inside on the classic Nacelles?
You have inside lit Nacelles, when u choose to "fly" with Skin 7, but they are bright blue.

During these missions, you will be playing the role of your counterparts from the Mirror Universes.

Mirror Wars 1 takes place after the events of the original Mirror Universe missions from the Cardassian Arc, which were removed when season 11 arrived. If you are unfamiliar with them, fear not I have brought them back with the foundry.
Mirror Wars 2 takes place after the Iconian War during the Terran Empire's invasion of the Federation lead by Admiral Leeta.

-Redux- Crack in the Mirror
-Redux- The Other Side

(Note: These above three missions were created by Cryptic Studios, all I've done is brought them back, and tried to 'spice' them up a bit.)

Admiralty assignments as micro episodes

$

While, on the whole, I find the Admiralty assignment system somewhat tedious, I do enjoy the flavor text associated with the assignments.

So in an idle moment, waiting for the the Artifact hunt in Risa to run down, I thought, wait a minute, my ship is one of my admiralty cards: Surely I should notice if it went off on a mission for a while? Which, while a bit silly, did make me thing:

Wouldn't it be neat if - at least some - of the admiralty assignments could be 'upgraded' to a micro-episode that I could actually complete with my captain? I say 'micro episode' because the flavor text does not imply much depth, and so an assignment would be something that - for the most part - could be completed in a few minutes. Also, in terms of production - there would not be any new maps or deep NPCs to create, it could mostly be implemented by just stashing a few triggered events on mostly existing public maps.

Is is practical? I don't really know how. I do know the flavor text makes me just a little jealous of my admiralty captains who are off 'escorting prisoner convoys' or 'resolving dilithium mining disputes' while I collect Favors on Risa while waiting for the next major eposide update to drop.

Why do the Borg use manual/visual interface technology?

$

I've been watching some Borg themed episodes lately and have been puzzled by why they actually use control panels and display screens.

The Borg are connected by the Hivemind directly to their computer network, so they should be capable of just sending the commands directly without needing to push buttons on a pillar.
In the past when a direct connection was needed, they used a data device on their arm to interface with the console.

Also, given that they are connected directly to the Borg sensors, they should have no need to actually look at a screen to see outside the ship, the visual data could be transmitted directly to their visual and auditory processing neural structures.
And it would be faster as well to send a transmission instead of extending an arm and pushing buttons in a sequence.

The only need they would have for manual interaction is carrying spare parts around the cube to repair damaged components.
Because it isn't going to walk there by itself (unless it's a regeneration sequencer).

My theory is that the production team thought the concept of direct transmission interfacing wouldn't be comprehensible onscreen, so they have the Borg pushing buttons and looking at display screens because it is expected/familiar.

T'liss temporal warbird skins

Hi everyone,

is it just me or are the temporal warbird skins kinda limited? I mean, I do have the T1 also (both the default T'liss and the c-store T1, the T'varo), but can only use the skins for the Malem and T'varo. If I go into the ship editor, I can not pick the T1 T'liss skin, and therefore also cannot pick any of the paintjobs if I want to roll with the T'liss look.

Is this intended (doubt it)? Or anyone has any idea how to get the T'liss look with the paintjobs available?

Thanks!

Problems with Romulans

So one of the problems with Romulans in my opinion is unlike the federation which seems to have a new ship every patch is that Romulans aren't getting as many new ships. I know this has probably been another topic on this and what but cant the different factions be at least evened out on the ships they have access to before they add new federation ships? Even Klingons don't have the amount of ships as Federation it is disappointing and disheartening at the difference between the 3 factions and the number of ships that they can fly.

Spending Lohlunat Favors

So a question about the Summer Festival, and the Lohlunat Favors I seem to be amassing.

I quite enjoy the races on Risa and in the course also of completing the "In a Geological Sense..." accolade I have collected way more Lohlunat Favors than I intended to spend. I have purchased the top tier Floater and Board. I have purchased the 3 VR DOFF, and to show spirit I got a wet suit too. I've made myself the 2 holiday Tribbles.

So now what? It seems that I either need to just save the Favors until next year (in case a further use reveals itself) or commit to expanding my bathing suit collection - somewhat useless as the Risa Summer Event location is the only place the bathing suits can be worn, or buy the Kits or matching BOFF ground skills.

So im looking for opinions on what is actually worth spending Favors on.

Non T6 C Store ships question

Hello all. I took some time off from the game and had some questions regarding the Non T6 c-store ships. Basically years ago I purchased the Gladius, Thunderchild, and several others all prior to the release of T6 Ships.....so are these basically useless now? Kinda feel dumb that I bought these back in the day and there is no "conversion" for them aside from being skins now. Is there any actually use for lower tier c store ships anymore? Am I correct in understanding the ship releases now will basically be all T6 going forward?

What's your favorite kind of STO content?

$

Excluding Foundry stuff, I guess.

This topic was spurred by a complaint I've seen a couple of times, about Space Battlezones reducing queue populations. I started ruminating on that because I consider space battlezones as probably the most successful kind of content STO has ever produced, personally; at the same time, I consider queues to be a general failure of the original design goals of the game.

One is an open area in which content can be accessed at leisure, with overarching goals but open ended objectives. There's no punishment for participation and the content is generally engaging (with a couple of exceptions). There's no time restrictions on when it can be used, and the content evolves with or without you. If this sort of content could be applied across a whole sector, or with deep space instances, I'd consider it a large step forward for the game. I'm just disappointed there's not one for every reputation, with some Battlezone marks either having no BZ or being relegated to Ground BZs (I detest ground combat).

The other (queue) is content that splits its own population into three (or more if you consider queues to be competing) parts. It has a defined population that will not allow participation until it's met. It's static, completely instanced, extremely repetitive and requires everyone's active participation for sometimes very extended periods of time. So not only is it segregated and restricted, but it also ensures the content dies permanently if players tire of meeting these various conditions, perhaps even to be punished with ship and personal injury debuffs. I'm not saying they should be removed, but seeing them as the defined end game content for STO I always felt was foolish and extremely contrary to being an MMO at all - something STO doesn't utilize very often.

So, my pick is personally space battlezones. Specifically the Badlands, as my favorite. I'd probably like the Tzenkethi BZ a lot if it worked correctly, or at least rewarded you with marks for defending the zones you have to patrol, due to the constant flipping. They're probably my favorite STO content.

Ban floaters from Risa!

cRyT0b1.jpg

As you can see, the floaters can and will malfunction, resulting in poor captains and holidaygoers plunging to their deaths - This horrible example having fallen directly into a firepit - While safe except for bruises thanks to the DN-TAL brand anti-Risa EVA Suit, imagine this horror if it had been a barely dressed lifeform (as per most Risagoers) would have been horribly broken and burned beyond recognition

Won't someone please think of the children and save them from this skybound menace?!?

My build got derped mang!

So I just recently rejoined the game after a ~6 month hiatus (mostly playing fallout and SC2). My return was brought about by the summer event and the desire to get a new ship.

And what did I come back to? A "fun adjustment" and massively weakened leech.

Now I am no stranger to nerfs. I was around when the embassy console plasma explosions didn't have their base damage reduced by 50% and were still able to crit (creating some rather entertainingly high single hits for beam builds), and I was around when BFAW was still "broken" (as in it didn't drop your power levels to almost zilch when you used it), and I was also around when 2 piece borg 2 piece MACO was a thing.

But this last set of... "adjustments" as cryptic likes to put it has dropped my DPS by a borderline ludicrous amount. So now I am on here, asking for help. What can I do to increase my DPS back to it's pre S13 levels? I used to be at a respectable 67k (yeah yeah, I know there are uber DPS guys who were up at 200k, but hey, I'm a DPS casual), but now after my most recent parse, I am sitting back at 47k.

So here's my current build: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/4ad437bc6212fb2d34b212718f9a24bb
