Making the race twice as long doesn't make it any more fun. There's got to be a way to make a race that doesn't dole out wins based on ping rate. Eliminating the cooldowns on boost pads would be an excellent start.

Hey, folks! ~curtsy~ Mel here again. I was asking some ideas from the other girls in the main fleet most of my toons are in, "Goddess", an all girl fleet, Charlie's Angel's meets Star Trek, I guess. ~shrugs~ And one of them suggested "Why not make a fleet comic? :) " I loved the idea, and after a few weeks of making some character models, and some other things....like the fleet starbase, here's the results. First set of comics will take place on Risa....even thinking of having the station in orbit of Risa....dunno if that will be the case, I'll ask the fleet if they like that idea. It's pretty much going to be a silly, zanny, anime-ish Deep Space Nine. ;)

Here's the first three comics: And to any particular folks whinging about this being 'masturbatory material' ~coughdentalscough~ Put a silk stocking in it! It's summer, the Victorian era/1950's is over, and take a look in game, lots of players more provocatively dressed than this, and don't worry.......Uhura's navel in Mirror Mirror did not cause folks to riot and loot their cities, nor did it totally destroy masculine morals, neither shall this, folks. Would you pay for Screen Accurate Bridges and interiors?

With the amazing work carried out by Thomas Marrone on the Constitution Refit, Pilot Connie and Miranda, most if not all of the hero ships are now looking better than ever, fantastic even, well done Thomas and thank you for working after hours on this project.

My question now is this. Isn't it about time the same love was shown to the interiors of these ships, at least the bridges. We have screen accurate interiors for some ships, Kirk's Connie, Voyager, and accurate bridges for the JJ ships, but what about the Galaxy, the Sovereign, the Connie Refit, and more, including accurate ready rooms, conference rooms leading off the bridge as in the Enterprise D.

Clearly this level of detail is expensive to produce and perhaps some would say a waste of resources, but is it? If the company can make a profit on these bridges and interiors they could hire new staff to cover the design and implementation.

So would you guys like to see screen accurate bridges or even full interiors if you had to buy them in the C store, even if the price was the same as a ship?

Captain Waysou

kB62nAB.jpg

A Kurolarian pirate, Waysou was orphaned at a young age and later raised by a pirate captain, who saw potential in her and brought her aboard. Not one to just hand things over, her surrogate mother made her earn everything in her life, from a place to sleep to a meal to eat. She grew up learning how to fight, disable ships, crawl into tiny spaces to do her job, steal without getting caught, and kill mercilessly when her demands were not met. She also learned about how to read people, to gauge their actions and motivations, and to predict their behavior. She was made to read and think, to learn, to be more than a bloodthirsty savage, to always have a plan, and to understand that The Plan will go awry and require creative thinking on the spot. As her surrogate mother once said, "A keen mind is like a blade. It will save your life and can be used to get anything you want, but without one, you are vulnerable to a universe that would readily take advantage of you."

Above all else, though, she learned that crew is family, crew does not abandon each other or steal from one another, and crew should be picked based on what they bring to the family, not what they bring to a job. Talent can be outsourced. Family cannot.

K'ahoc - The first mate.

Images:

s7euw5A.jpg

Growing up as a farmer for the minor House of Qehi, K'ahoc understands the value of finesse over brute force, as crops will grow properly when guided, not forced. Farming, though, was not his true calling. This was made apparent when an assassination attempt was made on the Lady T'odith while on a tour of the farms. K'ahoc saw the assassin coming in for the kill and very quickly disemboweled him with a farming trowel. Unfortunately, the assassin was a member of one of the Great Houses, and much time and money was spent to cover it all up. The deceased's family wanted K'ahoc's head, but that was overruled. Instead, he was officially dismissed from service. Knowing he would be a target, Lady T'odith arranged for him to be smuggled offworld, gave him some money and provisions, and promised him that should he need help one day, all he needs to do is call.

K'ahoc wound up on Drozana Station, and that's where he met Waysou. Their relationship was antagonistic at first, but it grew into respect, comraderie, and eventually love. If any couple could be known as a perfect match, it's them. Similar in temperament and values to Waysou, he is the voice of caution when she is advocating a rampage. He is the one demanding retribution when she is willing to let an insult go unanswered. K'ahoc may come from farmers, but his heart is that of a warrior, something that only Lady T'odith saw.

A member of the Mirrorverse's Order of the Obsidian Talon, Midaa is an assassin who uses her gifts as an Orion to get close to her target and eliminate them. It was on such an assignment on Terok Nor where her mark figured out what was going on and tried to escape using a Multidimensional Transporter. Before he could complete the transport, she leapt upon him, sinking her blade deep into his throat, killing him instantly. Unfortunately, she and the body were both transported to Deep Space Nine, where she was taken into custody and the transporter confiscated. Thinking quickly, she requested asylum in exchange for valuable intelligence on both the Terran Empire and the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. Once she was off the station and being transported to a secure facility aboard the U.S.S. Starfarer, she broke out, disabled the ship, killed twenty-three of the crew including the XO and Chief of Security, then stole the Captain's Yacht. She set course for Q'on'os and told her story, then was promptly laughed out of the Great Hall. With nowhere else to go, she was approached by Waysou, who had heard of her story and was impressed.

A renegade and fugitive, Ch'habok is not his real name. It is actually K'tarka, of the House of Torg. He abandoned the name and his house when their treasonous acts were discovered, and has both Torg and Martok loyalists hunting him. He will kill any Torg that comes for him, but tries to avoid killing Martok soldiers if he can help it. Enough of their blood was shed, and he will not have it on his hands.

A distant relative of House Duras, the only thing Pahehk has in common with the Duras is his penchant for treachery and his ability to stay in someone's good graces long after he should have been killed. Unlike the Duras, he does not pretend to nobility. He does have honor and lives by a code, but he does not let the pursuit of honor ruin his life as it did his Duras brethren. To him, the right thing to do takes precedence over the honorable thing to do. As such, most Klingon rituals mean nothing to him, as the pursuit of honor and glory has been subsumed by the pursuit of efficiency and profit.

Onegu loves to hurt people, both physically and psychically. He has trained his mind his entire life to control his telepathic abilities, not to suppress them and keep others safe, but to wield them with the intricacy of a master torturer. Anyone can use a hammer and chisel to crack open a rock, but only a true artisan can use them to reveal a sculpture inside. To Onegu, his body is the hammer, his mind is the chisel, and he is the Lethean Michaelangelo, carving living beings into Davids made of pain and madness.

A Gorn genetic scientist once assigned to work with Admiral B'vat, once he learned that he would be experimenting on Gorn for the Gorn Augment Project, he strongly objected and destroyed their research, forcing them to start over. Knowing his career was over and very soon his life, Zogomal fled into space, eventually winding up on Nimbus III. He spent time traveling between Paradise City, the Gorn valley, and Shangdu, offering his services as a doctor to the people there. It was in Shangdu that he spotted and bought freedom for Rozach. He has been teaching the feral Gorn to be civilized since then, and a chance encounted with Waysou provided a way off the planet in exchange for his expertise as a medic.

Kidnapped as a hatchling, raised as an animal for Hassan's gladiatorial matches, and rescued by Zogomal, Rozach was at first utterly feral, seeing other beings as something to kill... and eat. He is always guarded, ready to fight, as that was the sum total of his existence. Only Zogomal and Waysou are allowed to actually touch him, though he is also warming up to Ch'habek. It's a slow process, but Zogomal is teaching him how to be civilized. He still doesn't grasp things like table manners or politeness and barely speaks, but at least he knows that wearing pants is a thing and that eating the crew is not.

As the sons of the captain, they were to be put to death, but they escaped and eventually wound up hired by Waysou. Their ultimate goal is to reclaim the S.S. Bloodstar from the traitors who took it and avenge their father.

Amoral and seemingly lacking emotions, Kara has been a hardened criminal since she was a child. While she does not kill for the thrill of it nor particularly enjoy or hate it, she is not above killing anyone to achieve her goals. Amongst her crimes, she once set off a biogenic weapon aboard a starship, killing everyone onboard. Her reasoning? She wanted to get her hands on an android in the cargo hold without any interference. To her, that was simply the most expedient way. The cargo they were carrying was just a bonus. After transferring the android and all the cargo, money, and valuables to her own ship, she sent the ship into a star to erase any evidence. The worst part? The ship was ferrying about 1500 families set to start a new life on a remote colony.

What's your favorite kind of STO content?

Excluding Foundry stuff, I guess.

This topic was spurred by a complaint I've seen a couple of times, about Space Battlezones reducing queue populations. I started ruminating on that because I consider space battlezones as probably the most successful kind of content STO has ever produced, personally; at the same time, I consider queues to be a general failure of the original design goals of the game.

One is an open area in which content can be accessed at leisure, with overarching goals but open ended objectives. There's no punishment for participation and the content is generally engaging (with a couple of exceptions). There's no time restrictions on when it can be used, and the content evolves with or without you. If this sort of content could be applied across a whole sector, or with deep space instances, I'd consider it a large step forward for the game. I'm just disappointed there's not one for every reputation, with some Battlezone marks either having no BZ or being relegated to Ground BZs (I detest ground combat).

The other (queue) is content that splits its own population into three (or more if you consider queues to be competing) parts. It has a defined population that will not allow participation until it's met. It's static, completely instanced, extremely repetitive and requires everyone's active participation for sometimes very extended periods of time. So not only is it segregated and restricted, but it also ensures the content dies permanently if players tire of meeting these various conditions, perhaps even to be punished with ship and personal injury debuffs. I'm not saying they should be removed, but seeing them as the defined end game content for STO I always felt was foolish and extremely contrary to being an MMO at all - something STO doesn't utilize very often.

So, my pick is personally space battlezones. Specifically the Badlands, as my favorite. I'd probably like the Tzenkethi BZ a lot if it worked correctly, or at least rewarded you with marks for defending the zones you have to patrol, due to the constant flipping. They're probably my favorite STO content.

That's right, I said it.

Here's the problem as I see it, and here's a solution for discussion..

the 'elites' in Pvp are too good.

If y ou can run enough gear to be immune to weapons fire, you don't belong in a PUG, if you are rocking stuff that has no counter, you don't belong in a PUG, if you're untouchable, AND can deliver one-shot-kills? you should most definitely NOT be pugging randoms.

Here's why:

Take a new player, someone who isn't from a long career of PvP'ing in other games when they joined STO... now let's submit this guy to his first PUG match, and let's say it's like all too many-a bunch of bored Elites, who've got all the rep grinds finished, best gear, have spreadsheeted their builds to eke everything out...
and they're all on one side.

which isn't his..

can you guess what's going to happen? I've observed this, so I know, and if you're honest, so do you.

nine out of ten newguys will never line up for a second match after the 15/0 teamwipe they just went through.

Until the matchmaking system actually comes on line, the number of PvP players will continue to be something counted more in the departures (that is, people leaving the game for 'real life' issues), than in the new arrivals (people who want to do it and will develop their skills ad builds to an advanced level.)

this is an area where the community can take a hand in reversing the trend...

HOWSO?

By adopting limits of our own, by keeping the 'best' builds for grudge matches against those of equal status, and even (gasp!) voluntarily running sub-optimal builds.

I'm not talking about VanillaPvP rules here, I'm talking about something looser-with fewer restrictions, but angled to push the casual matches in a direction that encourages the occasional newguy to come back for a second match.

because it's the Newguys, not the constant players, that PvP is lacking.

in the process of doing this, as a community, we might even find a few surprises lurking in the shadows-builds and approaches that weren't considered, ways of playing, and ways to increase interest in the 'majority' of the game's playerbase.

alright, shoot the idea down.

The Science Ship Build Thread

$

Hello!

Since I started playing, I found it difficult to find dedicated discussions on Science builds. After several discussions in the game's chat about Science builds, I thought that maybe it would be nice to put all the builds together into one thread so that people will find it easier to find science builds and share ideas.

So let's start by defining what a Science ship is. As of this post, I'd say any ship with a Secondary Deflector is a Science ship. Preferably, I'd like to restrict the ships in this thread to those that do for now.

If you'd want to share your build, please follow the following format:
Ship Class/Tier - Your ship class and tier
Build Description - A short description of your build and what your build objectives are.
Link - Link to your build (Reddit /r/stobuilds or StoAcademy links welcome)

Any build is welcome. You can post your finished builds, work-in-progress builds or leveling builds. Don't limit yourself to DPS builds too. Science ships are pretty flexible so if you have a PVP build, healer build, drain build or CC build or any other build feel free to post them. The more variation we have, the better.

Looking forward to see all your builds!

I'll start by posting my current ships:

Edit:

Old cheat sheet (Spoilered to save space):
As a general cheat sheet for those building Science Ships, I'd like to quote this rather helpful post by @farseeridranel from his Science Skills at Peak Efficiency guide.
Here is a little guide for everyone out there who is flying a science vessel and is trying to get high numbers in the offensive science skills (flow capacitor [FC], particle generators [PG], graviton generators [GG], counter measure systems [CMS] and subspace decompiler [SD]). I try to put together what is needed for a theoretical maximum (e.g. by using the epic version) and the standard MK XII version of items.

Items for defensive science skills are shown in post #2.

Info about auxiliary power can be found in post #10

Particle generator [PG]

Particle generator is the skill that boosts the damage of the big science abilities gravity well and tyken's rift, but also of tractor beam, tractor beam repulsors and many other abilities including those from set boni and consoles, e.g. isometric charge. Recently particle generator received lots of attention and it is reasonably easy to achieve high numbers here, which works nicely together with the lvl 15 R&D trait particle manipulator (0.25% CrtH/1 PG --> 100 % CrtH at 400 PG)

The equipment with the highest values in PG (MK xII/MK XIV UR/epic):

deflector: Solanae set (35/50 at ur)

secondary deflectors with part gen bonus (+15), another +10 at epic rarity (+25 total)

engine/shield: 2 set bonus from reman or romulan set (17.5)

warp/singularity core: singularity cores can have [PrtG] as mod (17.5/20?)

Science consoles: 4 x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5)

1 x R&D particle console (31.9/75 (with additional [PrtG] mod))

Engineering console: 1 x R&D RCS console with [PrtG] mod (31.9/37.5)

universal consoles: Nukara console (17.3/?)

Special: - Vesta console fermion field (+13.3 PG for 20 s)
- 2 piece set bonus from risian set (+25.5 PG) (there is no risian science vessel though, yet)

From abilities we can get +10-20 PG from EPtAux1-3

From traits we can get the trait astrophysicist (+10 PG) (available for most captains except caitan, ferasan, pakled and lethean)

A joined Trill as captain adds 6.7 to PG

The theoretical maximum, which includes 9 points in the PG captain skill is about 689 for 8 seconds. This requires a romulan vessel with [PG] singularity core, a captain with the astrophysicist trait, 5 science consoles, a lt. commander engineering (for EPtAux3), 3 x inspirational leader, 25 from Doff mission, fleet science booster and quantum singularity booster. I don't think such a science vessel exists (yet), thus, a Joined trill captain in a Scryer should reach the highest values at the moment.

Graviton generator [GG]

Who needs damage when he/she can pull the ships from the whole map into one gravity well? GG increases the pull strength of gravity well, the repel of photonic show wave etc.

The maximum possible number in GG can be achieved this way (MK XII/MK XIV ur/epic):

deflector: Romulan or reman set (39.4/45 at ur)

Secondary deflector with GG mod at MK XIV (+15)

Engine/shield: none

Warp/Singularity core: Singularity cores can have a [GG] mod (17.5/20?)

Science consoles: either 5x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5) or 1 crafted particle field exciter with GG mod and 4 x embassy consoles

Engineering console: 1 x R&D RCS console with [GG] mod (31.9/37.5)

Universal console: assimilated console (23/x)
tachyokinetic converter (17.2/x)

special: 2 piece set bonus from risian set (25.5) (there is no risian science vessel though)

From abilities we can get +10-20 GG from EPtAux1-3

A joined Trill as captain adds 6.7 to GG

Flow capacitors [FC]

How about draining ship power and shields? Flow capacitors help a lot here. They work on the procs of tetryon and polaron weapons, tetryon glyder (from 2 piece omega set), tachyon beam, tykens rift, plamonic leech, charged particle burst and the shield drain from a Doffed tractor beam.

For a maximum in FC we need (MK XII/MK XIV ur/epic):

Deflector: Jem Hadar (26.2/30)
secondary deflector: solanae (13.3/x) or any other with [FlwC] at MK XIV (+15)

Engine/shields: none

sets: 2 piece bonus from Nukara weapon set (15.2)
2 piece bonus from apex predator set (15.2)

Warp/singularity core: none

Engineering consoles: R&D console with [Flow] (31.9/37.5)

Science consoles: 5 x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5)

Universal consoles: Rule 62 (Ferengi console) (17.2/x)

Special: 2 piece set bonus from breen console set (35.5) (there is no breen science vessel though, yet)

Counter measure systems (CMS)

This skills works on Scramble and Jam sensors.

Deflector: Jem hadar (26.2/30) or reman/romulan deflector?

Engine/shields, Warp/singularity core, sets: none

Science consoles: 5 x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5)

Universal consoles: ?

Special: 2 piece set bonus from breen console set (35.5) (there is no breen science vessel though, yet)

Subspace decompiler (SD)

Subspace decompiler increases disables (subsystem targeting, shock wave, viral matrix, tricobalt projectiles). This skill is the most expensive of the offensive science skills (9 ranks require 27 000 skill points; 9 ranks in FC requires 9000 for comparison) and there are no science consoles with SD mod or many items with this mod at all

deflector: romulan or reman (26.2/x)

secondary deflector with SD mod MK XIV +15

Engine/shield/warp core/singularity core/sets: none

Universal console: silent enemy (Elachi set) (17.2/x)

Joined trill captain (6.7)

From abilities we can get +10-20 SD from EPtAux1-3

other

constriction anchor console adds 23.8 % to exotic damage

In general:

There are some traits and devices that boost all of these skills:

- the trait inspirational leader (10 % chance for + 10 all skills, stacks up to 3 times)
- fleet science booster (+10 to science skills for x min)
- quantum singularity manipulation (+100 to science skills for 8 seconds, T5 romulan reputation)
- 9 ranks in the respective skill (+99)

Doff asignments

- There are assignments under "personal" that boost many skill by 25 for two hours on crit

Traits

Skills are not the only way to enhance science damage. A couple of traits help as well:

Conservation of energy (Science captain only): +10 % exotic damage when struck by energy weapons

particle manipulator (from R&D): 0.25 % CrtH for each point in PG (100% at 400 PG)

positive feedback loop (delta lock box): + 10% exotic damage when activating a healing ability

psychological warfare (Undine lock box): +20 % more pull/hold (Grav well etc)

Some ships have good traits for us:

enhanced particle generators (most science vessels): + 15 % exotic damage

Emitter synergy (Scryer science vessel): + 7.5 % more exotic damage when activating a tac/intel boff ability

Doffs:

Doffs don't increase damage or skills, but add effects or reduce cooldowns:

- deflector officer: reduce cooldown of gravity well, tykens rift, tachyon beam and energy siphon
- gravimetric scientist: - additional gravity wells (gravity well variant); additional tykens rifts (tykens variant); -10 s cooldown GW/TR (CD variant); adds radiation damage to charged particle burst (particle burst variant)
- tractor beam officer: add shield drain to tractor beam

The Priority One Armada gaming community is part of the popular Star Trek Podcast, Priority One Podcast. We cover all the latest news for the Star Trek Universe as well as the latest news for STO including interviews with the developers on season updates.

Our primary aim is to provide a fun, lively and inclusive gaming experience for all STO players.

Our Armada is composed of 10 Federation fleets and 3 KDF fleets ranging from level 10 Tier 1 to level 65 Tier 5. This ensures that we can offer you a fleet that suites your needs or playstyle, and we always have plenty of open projects for earning fleet credits.

We are a well established casual, mature and very friendly active Armada with over 1,250 members. We hold regular competitions, giveaways, and seasonal events for all our members!

We can assist you with PvE, PvP, Ship Builds, STF walkthroughs and Mission Runs / Levelling.

If you would like any further information about our community please don't hesitate to ask any of our members. Alternatively, you can head over to www.priorityonearmada.com for complete information and to submit an application to join any one of our fleets.

We have a fully developed website, complete with discussion forums, guides and information on the promotion and fleet rank system. You can also easily find information on our voice TeamSpeak server and we encourage all members to use voice comms as it makes things much easier such as PvE/PvP groupings, ship building and mission runs. Alternatively, you can just hang out with us for a chat.

NOTE: The use of voice comms is not mandatory!

At the core of the Priority One Armada we have the belief that no member be forced to do anything they don't want to and that real life will always come first. Our aim is to create a fun friendly environment where you are free to play in whatever way suits you.

Captains Boost Bundle - C-store - Promotion STO PS4

Went to use the Captains Boost on a new character I created specifically to use it on and found it was removed. It wasn't until I checked the website that I found it was a limited time offer. I don't check the website very often as the free time that I do have I spend playing STO. I am not the only one that has missed out on claiming it. It is my hope that by posting Arc/Cryptic/Perfect World will put it back on the C-store so those that missed out can claim it. Seems odd that it was only available for a short time compared to Khans outfit that has been there for months. I would have thought that since it was put on the C-store the same time as the Summer Event that they would at the least leave it there until the end of the Summer Event. I would like to hear peoples views whether the Captains Boost should be put back on the C-store until the end of the Summer Event. Oh and I will be checking the website more often.
