The Science Ship Build Thread

Hello!

Since I started playing, I found it difficult to find dedicated discussions on Science builds. After several discussions in the game's chat about Science builds, I thought that maybe it would be nice to put all the builds together into one thread so that people will find it easier to find science builds and share ideas.

So let's start by defining what a Science ship is. As of this post, I'd say any ship with a Secondary Deflector is a Science ship. Preferably, I'd like to restrict the ships in this thread to those that do for now.

If you'd want to share your build, please follow the following format:
Ship Class/Tier - Your ship class and tier
Build Description - A short description of your build and what your build objectives are.
Link - Link to your build (Reddit /r/stobuilds or StoAcademy links welcome)

Any build is welcome. You can post your finished builds, work-in-progress builds or leveling builds. Don't limit yourself to DPS builds too. Science ships are pretty flexible so if you have a PVP build, healer build, drain build or CC build or any other build feel free to post them. The more variation we have, the better. :wink:

Fleet Long Range Science Vessel (Pathfinder)/Tier 6
Description
This is an end-game DPS build focusing on radiation, exotic damage and torpedos. Current best parse is 78k in ISA.

Multi-Mission Surveillance Explorer (Vesta) Tier 5U
Description
This is an end-game DPS build focusing on radiation, exotic damage and torpedoes. The build aims to maximize DPS while still using all 3 of the Vesta Bundle consoles for some added fun factor. Current best parse is 73k in ISA.

As a general cheat sheet for those building Science Ships, I'd like to quote this rather helpful post by @farseeridranel from his Science Skills at Peak Efficiency guide.
Here is a little guide for everyone out there who is flying a science vessel and is trying to get high numbers in the offensive science skills (flow capacitor [FC], particle generators [PG], graviton generators [GG], counter measure systems [CMS] and subspace decompiler [SD]). I try to put together what is needed for a theoretical maximum (e.g. by using the epic version) and the standard MK XII version of items.

Items for defensive science skills are shown in post #2.

Info about auxiliary power can be found in post #10

Particle generator [PG]

Particle generator is the skill that boosts the damage of the big science abilities gravity well and tyken's rift, but also of tractor beam, tractor beam repulsors and many other abilities including those from set boni and consoles, e.g. isometric charge. Recently particle generator received lots of attention and it is reasonably easy to achieve high numbers here, which works nicely together with the lvl 15 R&D trait particle manipulator (0.25% CrtH/1 PG --> 100 % CrtH at 400 PG)

The equipment with the highest values in PG (MK xII/MK XIV UR/epic):

deflector: Solanae set (35/50 at ur)

secondary deflectors with part gen bonus (+15), another +10 at epic rarity (+25 total)

engine/shield: 2 set bonus from reman or romulan set (17.5)

warp/singularity core: singularity cores can have [PrtG] as mod (17.5/20?)

Science consoles: 4 x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5)

1 x R&D particle console (31.9/75 (with additional [PrtG] mod))

Engineering console: 1 x R&D RCS console with [PrtG] mod (31.9/37.5)

universal consoles: Nukara console (17.3/?)

Special: - Vesta console fermion field (+13.3 PG for 20 s)
- 2 piece set bonus from risian set (+25.5 PG) (there is no risian science vessel though, yet)


From abilities we can get +10-20 PG from EPtAux1-3

From traits we can get the trait astrophysicist (+10 PG) (available for most captains except caitan, ferasan, pakled and lethean)

A joined Trill as captain adds 6.7 to PG


The theoretical maximum, which includes 9 points in the PG captain skill is about 689 for 8 seconds. This requires a romulan vessel with [PG] singularity core, a captain with the astrophysicist trait, 5 science consoles, a lt. commander engineering (for EPtAux3), 3 x inspirational leader, 25 from Doff mission, fleet science booster and quantum singularity booster. I don't think such a science vessel exists (yet), thus, a Joined trill captain in a Scryer should reach the highest values at the moment.


Graviton generator [GG]

Who needs damage when he/she can pull the ships from the whole map into one gravity well? GG increases the pull strength of gravity well, the repel of photonic show wave etc.

The maximum possible number in GG can be achieved this way (MK XII/MK XIV ur/epic):

deflector: Romulan or reman set (39.4/45 at ur)

Secondary deflector with GG mod at MK XIV (+15)

Engine/shield: none

Warp/Singularity core: Singularity cores can have a [GG] mod (17.5/20?)

Science consoles: either 5x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5) or 1 crafted particle field exciter with GG mod and 4 x embassy consoles

Engineering console: 1 x R&D RCS console with [GG] mod (31.9/37.5)

Universal console: assimilated console (23/x)
tachyokinetic converter (17.2/x)

special: 2 piece set bonus from risian set (25.5) (there is no risian science vessel though)

From abilities we can get +10-20 GG from EPtAux1-3

A joined Trill as captain adds 6.7 to GG


Flow capacitors [FC]

How about draining ship power and shields? Flow capacitors help a lot here. They work on the procs of tetryon and polaron weapons, tetryon glyder (from 2 piece omega set), tachyon beam, tykens rift, plamonic leech, charged particle burst and the shield drain from a Doffed tractor beam.

For a maximum in FC we need (MK XII/MK XIV ur/epic):

Deflector: Jem Hadar (26.2/30)
secondary deflector: solanae (13.3/x) or any other with [FlwC] at MK XIV (+15)

Engine/shields: none

sets: 2 piece bonus from Nukara weapon set (15.2)
2 piece bonus from apex predator set (15.2)

Warp/singularity core: none

Engineering consoles: R&D console with [Flow] (31.9/37.5)

Science consoles: 5 x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5)

Universal consoles: Rule 62 (Ferengi console) (17.2/x)

Special: 2 piece set bonus from breen console set (35.5) (there is no breen science vessel though, yet)


Counter measure systems (CMS)

This skills works on Scramble and Jam sensors.

Deflector: Jem hadar (26.2/30) or reman/romulan deflector?

Engine/shields, Warp/singularity core, sets: none

Science consoles: 5 x romulan embassy consoles (31.9/37.5)

Universal consoles: ?

Special: 2 piece set bonus from breen console set (35.5) (there is no breen science vessel though, yet)


Subspace decompiler (SD)

Subspace decompiler increases disables (subsystem targeting, shock wave, viral matrix, tricobalt projectiles). This skill is the most expensive of the offensive science skills (9 ranks require 27 000 skill points; 9 ranks in FC requires 9000 for comparison) and there are no science consoles with SD mod or many items with this mod at all

deflector: romulan or reman (26.2/x)

secondary deflector with SD mod MK XIV +15

Engine/shield/warp core/singularity core/sets: none

Universal console: silent enemy (Elachi set) (17.2/x)

Joined trill captain (6.7)

From abilities we can get +10-20 SD from EPtAux1-3


other

constriction anchor console adds 23.8 % to exotic damage


In general:

There are some traits and devices that boost all of these skills:

- the trait inspirational leader (10 % chance for + 10 all skills, stacks up to 3 times)
- fleet science booster (+10 to science skills for x min)
- quantum singularity manipulation (+100 to science skills for 8 seconds, T5 romulan reputation)
- 9 ranks in the respective skill (+99)


Doff asignments

- There are assignments under "personal" that boost many skill by 25 for two hours on crit


Traits

Skills are not the only way to enhance science damage. A couple of traits help as well:

Conservation of energy (Science captain only): +10 % exotic damage when struck by energy weapons

particle manipulator (from R&D): 0.25 % CrtH for each point in PG (100% at 400 PG)

positive feedback loop (delta lock box): + 10% exotic damage when activating a healing ability

psychological warfare (Undine lock box): +20 % more pull/hold (Grav well etc)


Some ships have good traits for us:

enhanced particle generators (most science vessels): + 15 % exotic damage

Emitter synergy (Scryer science vessel): + 7.5 % more exotic damage when activating a tac/intel boff ability


Doffs:

Doffs don't increase damage or skills, but add effects or reduce cooldowns:

- deflector officer: reduce cooldown of gravity well, tykens rift, tachyon beam and energy siphon
- gravimetric scientist: - additional gravity wells (gravity well variant); additional tykens rifts (tykens variant); -10 s cooldown GW/TR (CD variant); adds radiation damage to charged particle burst (particle burst variant)
- tractor beam officer: add shield drain to tractor beam
- tractor beam officer: Voth, reverses tractor beam repulsors
- technician: Xindi, extra damage when using EPtAux (10% chance, 25 % extra dmg)
- warp theorist: decrease turn rate with tachyon beam
- warp theorist (Juel Ducane): Subsystem disable added to energy siphon
- energy weapons officer: reduce cooldown on subsystem targeting
- matter/antimatter specialist: Xindi, gravity well has chance to knock off engines
- biologist: scramble sensors reduces ability recharge time
- research lab scientist: placate with charged particle burst
- research lab scientist: Ocampa, tachyon beam pulls target
- photonic studies scientist: reduce cooldown on photonic abilities; additional photonic shockwave

As a follow up to yesterday's control skill post. Here are the instructions on how to get your drain skill to the moon. It's fun in PvE since you pretty much suck shields away in Advanced difficulty, but do not use in Elite. You can try it in PvP, but most players have so many restart, immunity, and debuff removal junk on their ships that you'll need two alpha strike ships at your side and a healer to make this useful in PvP.

1) Full skill tree for drain = 100
2) 5 Exotic Particle Focuser [DrainX]x2 = 62.5 x 5 = 312.5
3) Conductive RCS Accelerator [Drain] = 37.5
4) Rule 62 console (lobi) = 28.1
5) Quantum Phase Converter = 37.5
6) Zero Point Energy Conduit = 24.6
7) Nukara particle converter = 21.7
8) Terran Rep Deflector = 60
9) Solanae 2nd deflector = 30
10) R&D crafted engines [Damp] = 33
11) Temporal shield = 30
12) Terran 2-piece bonus (Deflector + WC) = 17.8
13) Apex Predator set 2-piece (lobi weapon and mines) = 17.8
14) Nukara Appropriated Munitions set 2-piece (console + mines or beams) = 17.8
15) Superior Astrophysicist = 15
16) 23c Science boffs from K-13 = 10 each for a max of 30

Total = 793.3 to 813.3 depending on number of boffs

Extras:
1) Inspirational Leader = +10 to +30
2) Fleet science boost = +10
3) Doff assignment crits = +25 per crit
4) QSM = +100

Note on the pic, I'm missing gold zero point console and only have 1 23c boff.

I was just wondering if we can expect to see the Tier 6 Flagship bundle (that included the T6 Odyssey Star Cruiser/flag ship) come to the console version of the game?

I just mastered the Na'kuhl Tadaari raider but the T5 starship trait, Spoils of the Victor, doesn't appear anywhere on the list available.

I've tried changing maps, instances, tried on ground and space, and even restarted the game but no solution yet. with other ships I've not had any issues.

Was about to pick this ship up, but got some advice that this is a bad ship.... any reason why it is so bad? If not why not? Also what else would you suggest for a romulan ship? Have a t6 Khopesh right now and I liked the look of the D'khelra when I saw it in space, I like large ships...

I also liked the DD because it seemed versatile... would run beams but maybe switch up the universal slot between sci tac and eng loadouts...

How to submit a ticket for Website and Forums issues

Hi

I tried to follow your link for a forums and website ticket https://support.arcgames.com/. That isn't even an option on there bud.

Actually, there is a way to file a forums and website ticket. But I'll admit it wasn't exactly easy to find.

Following the link, I selected Games. Then I selected Star Trek Online from the list.

Then I clicked on the button at the bottom to "Submit a ticket"

I opened the ticket form and selected Customer Support. It wouldn't let me submit it. Turns out there's a tiny arrow next to the Customer Support option that presents a dropdown submenu. Once I did that, it let me submit the ticket.

All websites are subject to change over time, so I can't guarantee it will work that way in the future.

If anyone needs to submit a ticket to get someone to look at a problematic post or thread, this is how you do it.

Of course you can always PM a Mod, but I can't guarantee you'll get a swift response as we're all volunteers.

I'll ask if I can get this stickied.

DX11 not working on windows 10

STO is not starting on DX11 mode on Windows 10 home. Drivers are up to date on the system. Video card is GTX1070.
Further, the game does no longer allow DX9 mode and displays a warning saying it is no longer supported and it switches automatically to DX11.
Launcher works, but the game does nor start.

How about a EVsuit slot?

Not sure if i am the only person. But i wish there was a EVsuit slot. I mean sure i have a good amount of inventory slots. But i don't want to break a two sometimes 3 set to use a evsuit when i have to. There are those that suggest just get one of those nukura sets. It is a RP thing but it would make sense to have the evsuit always at the ready.

What was that dude from the future that make the tox something something. he didn't even need a suit all it was is a force field to the face man. Anyway. May suggestion is.

The slot would be right next to body armor slot. when equiped you have that little menu that allows you to activate and put on the suit and also take off the suit. As for stats. i would belive that when you activated the suit all the evsuit applies but would all the 2 or 3 set bonus to stay in place. now you are asking what if you have two evsuits one in body armor and one in the evsuit slot. then no change set bonus don't change but the armor with the higher stats would take over but the visual would change according to the suit you have in the evsuit slot. So i like the nukura set with that sword but i have the visual. i want to equip the with with the gold trim for the ferengi mine but the stats ok but really not ment for battle. problem solved you look good and you can have some set bonuses.

Also solves that issue of what to do with those evsuits that some of us bought and did not use. Hope someone can implement something like that. i mean if we can add visuals to our ships what not make something practical that we can use on the ground.

[BUG/PC] Temporal Fracture/Heisenburg Amplifier Graphical Glitch

It seems the Impact FX for both Temporal Fracture and Heisenburg Amplifier respectively, are distorted. The texture is rendered only as a discolored or sometimes blue/black square that fails in transparency rendering. This is especially noticeable during the mission "Ragnorok" when lots of Temporal abilities are firing off. I suspect this glitch is related to the same texture rendering issues which presents itself randomly throughout the game with many of the transparent textures.

LVL 60 Fleet Admiral, why are my attacks so weak compared to others?

Hey there guys. Level 60 fleet admiral here, been playing for about 5 years. I've got quite a few ships but mostly play with either a T6 Exploration Cruiser or a T5U Plesh Brek. The Plesh Brek has some serious DPS coming out of the front, the Exploration Cruiser is a little more balanced.

Either way, I constantly find that in STFs (except the Borg Incursion STF) my weapons seem to do little to nothing to them. Don't get me wrong, I'm hurting them, and give me 60 seconds and I can shred a sphere, a little longer for a cube...but I see everyone else charge in and they do in 1 salvo the damage it takes me 20 salvos to do.

I've got my weapons (Elite Fleet phasers at MKIV, Gravimetric photon torpedo launcher at Mark IV, Elite fleet photon torpedo launcher MKIV, and Neutronic torpedo launcher MKIV) all maxed out and purple or ultraviolet quality. On my Plesh Brek it's even further, most of the cannons (polaron) are elite with DMG multipliers at MKIV, yet I still don't see how everyone else just looks like their ships are spitting out dozens of beams, dozens of cannon blasts, and 5-10 torpedoes at a single salvo and firing another salvo like 2 seconds later...it's like they have 10 weapons slots fore and aft and have almost no reload time to their weapons.

What am I doing wrong? On my Plesh Brek I've even got the Kelvin timeline torps that reload faster and then I've got the device (don't remember name, but comes from Terran Task Force reputation) that takes a half second off reload time but no matter what I cannot shred through Borg cubes in like 3 salvos like I see so many people do. It'd take me 25-40 salvos at least.

Also I notice I almost never see anyone with regular old phasers anymore. Almost every ship I see in STFs are firing antiproton beams. Is that the key? Do I need to ditch phasers and go with Elite Fleet antiproton arrays?

I hadn't thought about this much until I read the latest state of the game update released recently.
One of the lines referenced an new ST series (Discovery) and I thought, nice, a new series!

I was disappointed to discover it was a prequel to TOS, not a continuation of the current timeline.
It could have even been a tie-in to the mmo, seeing the events of the game from a distant perspective, like a ship on the outskirts of the Federation reacting to what happens ingame without directly being involved much.
This is so they wouldn't have to be telling the stories of the game all the time and could tell their own stories for the most part.

So far, all I've seen in tv, movies and the mmo is backwards regression, the AOY update was used to add a lot of TOS specific content, the movies, Enterprise and Discovery all predate the TOS era.

Given that I am disappointed with Cryptic for not fully finishing the TNG content updates, I am concerned that when Discovery is released, they'll just use it as a reason to introduce a season update based fully around that show instead of working on the TNG completion.

And please note, I am not saying they can't do this, just they have to finish all the TNG content first.
