Ok this has been bugging me for a while now but why do some starships have four warp nacelles?

Ive been looking at the data for the Constellation-class and i can find no statement as to why they gave it four.

Has there ever been a reason stated why starfleet designed some ships with four nacelles, are 2 of them back up does it make the ship move faster put less strain on the nacelles, has there ever been a statement that anyone knows of as to why?

Suggestions for exotic heavy build - Sutherland

Morning everyone, I've been working on my new shiny Sutherland class trying to get the most out of a very science heavy build aimed at exotic damage and torpedoes. Before I link my full build, what suggestions can you guys offer in terms of getting the highest DPS possible using this combination?

My current BOFF set up is as follows, subspace vortex I, gravity well III and tachyon beam III (with the Sutherland AoE shield DoT). I'm using phased quantum torps (to strip any shields left) with neutronic and terran rep photon torps for radiation and sheer damage output (terran torp on lowish HP targets is great). My tac stations are using two copies of TT1 with APB and TS3 and TS2.

Now the burst damage this offers is great, but my overall DPS isn't fantastic it only parsed 26k in ISA last night although it might not have been a completely optimal run. My TOS Tactical toon with the Kelvin Connie parses roughly 50k easily sometimes peaking above that so I'm curious how I can improve my consistent DPS outside of burst damage from space magic abilities.

Any DOFF's you can recommend? Science ships are somewhat limited in comparison to the numerous perks the tactical DOFF's offer them.

Fighting the Tzenkethi (space)

Trying to figure these guys out still, though I haven't played a ton, and wondering if anyone had tips - shoot the small ones, shoot the big ones? I may be missing the buff icon notifications; sometimes they pop pretty easily and sometimes they seem incredibly resilient in space combat, though their damage output hasn't been spectacular.

Skipping Mission Question.

Hi,

I really want a mission reward console from the Iconian story arc, but to get to that arc I have to complete all of the Delta Quadrant story arc.

So if I skip DQ mission 4(ish) and all the way through what do I actually lose out on when I do play them again proper?

Will the good item rewards disappear as if I've completed them for the first time? (so I'd be left with the rerun rewards only)?

Will I lose out on the 'first time play' high experience? (so I'd only get the small rerun EXP from the mission(s))

Gecko's word on new factions

Taken from a transcription on reddit
https://www.reddit.com/r/sto/comments/4qv852/geko_says_kelvin_faction_is_possible/d4w87uc
"Yes we will probably do new factions in the future - not any time soon - but I am certain that we will explore other factions in the future, but no, they will probably, uh, it is extremely unlikely that we will do standalone factions that are their own thing. It's just way too expensive, it splits up the player base way too much. We would never be able to make enough content for it, we'd never be able to catch up. Inevitably what we'd have to do is what we end up having to do for the Klingons where at some point you just end up doing the same content that the other factions do but we have alternate dialog a little bit for them."

"Because we just can't make enough content. We've already got a situation where a small percentage of the population play Klingon and a small percentage play Romulan and a large percentage play Federation. If we throw in another faction, whatever that faction might be, would be splitting it up even more. And then I have to build all the ships for them. So right now we build ships, we have to build each one of those for each faction but inevitably build more for Federation because a lot more people play that. Well if I have another faction how am I going to support that faction with starships? It's completely and utterly unsustainable. So any new faction that joins the game in the future would have their own kind of personal experience, but then at some point will join back in to the existing factions."

"Legacy of Romulus is the same sort of thing. You start out as a Romulan, and you have your own personal Romulan story, your Romulan ships, and then you pick allegience to one of the primary factions."

"So if we did Cardassians it might be something like that. Whatever faction that might be. There's a good handful of species we might leverage."

"I've hinted at things like, oh we might do Cardassians, we might do Borg, we might do Jem'hadar. Now maybe we'll do Kelvin Timeline faction. I don't know. All those things are certain realistic possibilities. Maybe we'll do a Ferengi one. Those are all realistic. Those are the ones that make most sense to leverage. Would we do a separate Bajoran faction? Probably not, we just have them rolled into Federation, would we do a Hierarchy faction? Kobali? Probably not, it's not going to be all that attractive to a large number of people. But if we do them we will look for things that are really attractive to people, where people say 'I really want to see what that experience is like.' But it won't always be new factions, Delta Rising wasn't a new faction."

Really liking the new Tzenkethi PVE queus

As much of a dire situation the PVE queue list is most of the time, I actually kinda think that the Tzenkethi PVE queues might last awhile.

They are fun, not overly difficult, and actually give out some decent mark rewards.

Pugged them both a few times earlier today and got 60+ marks every time, even with what would normally e considered a "bad" team.

MAYBE they might last a bit longer then the others.

Enemies stronger in STFs?

So I'm sure this is a dumb question, but I just want to make sure about this and that I'm not missing something. Are enemies stronger in STFs? I've built myself a nice little fleet of ships, each with they're own equipment and while I try to upgrade them as best I can, I have too many to try and get them all up to MKXIV Epic, the most I try for is MKXIII UR, with a few exceptions. However thats not the issue, is solo missions, or at least in missions that can be played solo, I do a fair amount of damage and have no problem taking out groups of ships on Advanced difficulty. However as soon as I go into an STF, even set to Normal, I still hardly do any damage. I've never parsed it, but from the numbers I see it simply seems like the enemies in STFs have a LOT more shields. Is this true?

That's right. This one is mine, not yours.

Not sure what I'm gonna do with it yet. Maybe I'll use it to post pics of my favorite yarn balls. Like this one.

Nice, huh? Bet you wish you had one like. :p I might use it for that, or I might just decide that it's for my jibber-jabber.

Maybe it'll include odd phrases like: They'll be wigs on the green. Or...

Don't touch your elbow to your nose, you don't know where it's been all day.

:: nods head :: Yup. It's gonna be nice to have a thread that's all my own.

Enough with the Logs on DS9 already!

Is anyone else tired of this?

Every new reputation now, whenever you advance a Tier you have to go 'read mission logs on DS9.' Really? they can't just transmit them to me? I can't read them on ESD or better yet in the Captain Quarters on my own ship?

What is with the obsession with making us all go to DS9 just to read a mission log? I hardly ever go to the Alpha Quadrant, so it's annoying to constantly have to travel there just to click 'next' and then leave.

Can we please consider allowing us to read these logs from a more convenient location?

Auto activation of skills for PC?

I've played both the console and pc versions and to be honest I am somewhat annoyed at the PC version's lack of auto activation. I find it annoying having to split my focus between having fun and manually activating endless amounts of skills and abilities.. will they ever put this feature into the PC version? I think it's be a lot easier for people. especially new players

Playing my TOS Fed toon.

Browsed my accolades to see if any of the new ones were on it yet.

Got to the bottom and saw "Tour of Duty: New Duty Officers - Fill your roster with a complement of qualified KDF personnel. Report to Lieutenant S'stas at Qo'noS."

uh.

What?!

Tzenkethi Battlezone - No Elite Marks?

Not sure if a bug or WAI (hence why posting here not in Bug reports)

Should the BZ give elite marks? Have just completed it, killed all 3 bosses within time and while I got a marks reward box for each zone and boss killed, no elite marks were awarded. The other 2 space BZs grant (I believe) 3 elite marks on successful completion.

"Fluidic Destruction" episode: Screen all black as soon as in fluidic space

Started the mission normally, but as soon as I enter fluidic space, the screen behind the UI is all black. I can fly around using the UI, even fight without seeing anything, but the UI is the only thing to do that with - there is nothing else to see, as if there was no light source at all in the game world. This happens both with lighting 2.0 on and off. Can anyone confirm?

Reman shields (not a bug, but...)

$

Reman shields have gone from my favourite in the game, to being the worst. Seriously, put some on, and go into Solanae Dyson Sphere. Or Terran Battlezone. Your ship becomes almost invisible. They have become so reflective that you need welding goggles just to look at them.

Can we tone them down please?

They are supposed to be glossy black, with glowing honeycomb. Reflective like latex, or leather, with small specular spot. At the moment the reflection slider was 100% instead of 10%, and its ridiculously hideous.

(its been like this for months and months, and every patch thursday, I hope it will go back to normal, but nope....)

Devs pleeeeease, won't someone think of the Reman's eyes?? they don't like bright things... :p

i'm still hoping that one day a rep set will come out with jet-black shields. no patterns, decorations, greebles or blinky lights. just black (with maybe a tiny tiny 1% specular)
