[PC] Beyond the Nexus Week 1 Rewards!

Projectile Weapon Officer: broken?

$

0
I currently use 3 "Projectile Weapon Officer" of "purple" quality with a "Particle Emission Plasma Torpedo Launcher" (8 seconds of recharge).
The info of the officers says: "20% chance: Improve recharge time by 5 sec".
It seems to me that the current chance - that should be 20% for each officer if I am right, so 60% total - is far from 60%: it is maybe 20%, but definitely not 60%.
Is there a bug or something changed some patch ago?

Thanks!

Ridiculous alien species which you are glad haven't made it into the game?

At some point in any of the series shows there is always a ridiculous kind of alien which turns up and there's still a number of aliens which haven't even been added to the game yet.

One Star Trek alien species which I am glad that hasn't been added to the game is the Antedians. They look like fish wearing shower curtains and I think they are the most ridiculous alien design I have seen so far in any of the Star Trek shows.

Surviving the Trenches: A beginner's guide to fighting the Vaadwaur on Kobali Prime

$

0
This is written to help any new players who are hitting Kobali Prime for the first time, and who may be finding the Vaadwaur trenches a challenge.

I'm writing from the perspective of someone who plays with an engineering character, not tactical or science. If you play either of those careers, you may or may not be able to extrapolate and transpose the following for your own style of gameplay.

"Good evening, do you have a moment so we can discuss the Rules of Acquisition with you?"

joymE1z.jpg

"Fail to prepare; Prepare to fail..."

"Remember the six 'P's: Proper Planning Prevents P*ss Poor Performance."

The first time I played the missions on a now defunct character, I didn't know what was going on, and wound up respawning. A Lot. I didn't really have much idea on kits and boff powers, beyond letting the boffs do their default thing (I hadn't even worked out at that point, how to train them in new skills) I forget which weapons I was using, I think a split-beam phaser rifle, but they weren't really up to the task of dealing with how the Vaadwaur act, and how they act in the trenches. But from observing how the Vaadwaur were putting my character down, that showed me how I needed to be thinking and fighting. The old maxim of "Know Your Enemy" really applies here.

Vaadwaur Tactics:
Fighting Klingons on the ground, they tend to charge and attack, but can be fought face to face. Not so with the Vaadwaur.

Vaadwaur move in packs of three or more. They use Polaron weapons which in a pack, hit pretty rapidly. will drain your shields with each hit, they move quickly, and they will try and flank you.

So how do you counter this?

By mirroring their tactics.

You need to employ: Aggression, Defensiveness, and Mobility

How can you be both aggressive and defensive? By using defensive heals and boosts to counter the effects of their weapons, and then using that resistance to allow you to be aggressive towards the attacker. Keep moving. If you stand still, they will try and flank you. So don't give them the chance. Keep moving, and firing on the run.

I've seen players going into the trenches with heavy-weapons like the Boolean cannon, and while I've tried that, and it is survivable, personally, I prefer to equip a weapon which still allows for full sprinting without being slowed down.

The Vaadwaur use polaron weapons, so I consider it only right to return the favor. But by tooling up with dual pistols off the exchange, as that allows for a much faster rate of returning fire, than what they're dishing out. It's a bit like going up against the Fek'lhri with their anti-proton turrets, and the constant barrage which they put out. The only difference, is this time, you're the one putting out the barrage, not being on the receiving end of it ;)

Rate of fire is pretty much the key to overwhelming a Vaadwaur patrol. The piercing plasma rifle, is fast, but not really fast enough. A full auto Federation rifle? Forget about it... Having the right weapons plays a significant part in changing the environment from 'difficult and frustrating' to 'rather fun to run around, blasting on fools' ;) Run into the trenches armed with TR-116Bs, and you're respawning quickly ;) It needs the speed of the dual pistols (of six pistols) to really give the Vaadwaur a taste of their own medicine, and cut through them.

Your boffs are your teammates: Look after them, and they will look after you.

iJQiznq.jpg

Let them run off doing their own thing, while you try and do your thing, and that's when they can be overwhelmed. If they go down, you then have to revive them, leaving yourself vulnerable to attack. Without them, you can also be overwhelmed. Stick close to them; You benefit from them, they benefit from you :sunglasses:

Choice in boffs: Personally, I go for a tactical boff, and an engineering boff. Beam turrets take too long to set up to be effective in this situation, and the fight is over before they can be effective. But mines are good for creating a defensive perimeter for if you're going to be stopping to actually interact with the equipment in the trenches, such as tapping their communications. Medical generators can also be helpful. I won't say 'lifesavers', because they take too long to set up, and heal too slowly, to be considered a 'last ditch' in a fight, but, they're good to use after a fight, to bring everyone back up to full health before moving on to the next objective. I find that having an engineering boff, means one boff taking on the role of 'team medic', which allows the player to focus on their own survival, and any objective at hand, rather than having to think about healing the team too.

0wjdSDx.jpg

Gear: I'm not using anything spectacularly expensive (assuming you have a reasonable exchange budget ;) ) Think survivability. Shield boosts and health heals being a priority. I'm personally using two different shield recharges, Reroute Power to Shields to heal Kek, Shield Pulse to heal the boffs, and Scarab Plating as a backup for if shields fail while still on cooldown (with hypos and shield charges also loaded as emergency backups) to save that damage coming straight out of the health.

JIkF28A.jpg

Stuff like drones can be fun to use, but their deployment time, like the time taken to call down an Orbital Strike, is time which could simply be used hammering the fire key ;) I left them loaded, but mines really are more useful.

While it's possible to tank a Vaadwaur attack (or is 'turtle' the correct term?) it requires attention and management. Tanking the attack and not fighting back, will just waste the boost by letting it time out, and you'll still be taking fire. So use the heals and boosts, then unleash the fury against the attackers.

Why have I focussed on the trenches? The trenches amplify the Vaadwaur's 'swamp and flank' tactics, with not just one patrol, but several patrols, from multiple approaches. In the trench intersections, where some device interaction is required for a mission, it is very easy to get cornered and swamped, with no option but to fight your way clear. Other maps, such as defending the city bridge, they're coming from one direction, and easy (or easier) to defeat, and more options to evade or take cover.

But not in the trenches...

Master the trenches, and the Vaadwaur become handleable in all other environments :sunglasses:

Of course, these are my own experiences and thoughts, and your findings may vary. Any additional tips or tricks, please feel free to add them below :sunglasses:

Please post below any info you have on fighting different species StarShips, as of now from 1 mission to the next, i fight the Elachi with my Excelcior, i got MarkXIII dual beams, Poleron, Tetreon, Disrupor and another cant remember, x2 MarkXII monatonium consoles that give me max protection from knetic & energy damage, im cruising around them like a GOD ship & whiping out their entire fleet

Then ill fight those trash haulers in the Delta quadrant and just 1 of them will kick my ****, im thinking they are using Antiproton beams on me, so if i was to equipe my ship with Antiproton armor and weapons that can defeat the trash hauler armor, i would then kick there asses, just need to know what to equipe before i go in to battle against each species.

Launcher Crashes with Discord Running

We've recently been made aware of an issue where, on Windows 10, the launcher for Cryptic Studios games can crash while Discord is running. This appears to be related to the overlay feature. There are several known ways to work around this issue.
1. Run the game launcher via the Arc client.
2. Run the game launcher with Administrator permissions.
3. Disable the Discord Overlay feature while opening the launcher.
4. Exit Discord while opening the launcher.

Any one of these may allow you to run the launcher without crashing, and if you had disabled the Discord overlay or closed Discord before launching, you should be able to re-enable it before clicking Play if desired.

As of the original post, we're still a little early in diagnosis, so the workarounds above may have limited usefulness for some players.

Liberty Task Force & Liberty Honor Guard are Recruiting (PC Fleet)

LIBERTY TASK FORCE
"Liberty, Equality, Justice, Peace & Cooperation"

www.LibertyTaskForce.com
Info@LibertyTaskForce.com

Dear Star Trek Online Gamer,

Liberty Task Force (FED) and Liberty Honor Guard (KDF) are still recruiting. Please consider us as you Star Trek Online fleet. Here is a little bit about us...

Our Mission:

Liberty Task Force is a Star Trek Online gaming fleet that was established on April 28th, 2013. Since that time we have grown and are now made up of 3 FED fleets: Liberty Task Force (Lv65), Pride of the Federation (Lv65), & Liberty Guardians (Lv61) and 2 KDF fleets Liberty Honor Guard (Lv 65) & Pride of the Empire (lv65). Our mission and goal was to create a fun and friendly gaming community for both new and veteran players, and that's exactly what we have accomplished. We started this fleet with one key central idea in mind: that every member, whether their rank be high or low, has a voice on fleet business and that their voice be heard and acknowledged. That's why, along with a fair and highly structured ranking system, we proudly boast a voting system for major fleet amendments, regulations, activities, and events including major fleet holding projects. We believe that the fleet belongs to all its members not just the top few or the "in-crowd". Our ranking system is based on contributions to the fleet and your first promotion basically unlocks everything but the fleet vaults, and there is plenty of room for advancement for those that seek it. Nevertheless, we also welcome "solo" players that want the benefits of a fleet without having to commit a lot of time, effort, contributions, or having to pass all kinds of online gaming tests or roll-calls. The only requirement is you have to register on our website.

We are laid-back and respectful players. We do not judge anyone based on race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, economic status, political and religious beliefs, or your gaming style (so long as it doesn't impede with anyone else's). We won't berate and yell at you if you have to leave an STF or Fleet Action in the middle of the mission because the family or real-life come calling; we understand we have those too. If you want to learn the game, this is a great fleet to be in. If you want to teach new players the in's and out's of the game, this is a great fleet to be in. If you simply are looking for a group of friends that share similar interests, this is a great fleet to be in. We have members from all over the world; from across the U.S.A. to across parts of Europe so there is bound to be someone online on our website or in-game with whom to interact with. In fact our Admiralty is filled with players in the United States as well as across Europe so getting a hold of one of us is as easy as sending a quick message on the website or a request in our fleet and armada chat channels, and we always have room for more who want to take on a leadership role in the fleet.

We offer opportunities and activities for both the casual and hard-core gamer alike. Everyone is welcome and we offer PvE in STF's and Fleet Actions, as well as PvP events. We also have fleet activities where members can win great in-game prizes like ship boxes, keys, EC, and more. Again, we are also happy to house the "solo" player that just likes to play the episodes or foundry missions or just grind with their character. We sport an active website with forums, galleries, chat, and much more including Team Speak to communicate with each other within the game. Our fleets are also part of a large armada (STOFA) filled with many wonderful and friendly players to socialize or team up with as well. Feel free to have a look around www.libertytaskforce.com and make yourself at home. There is something here for everyone and we hope you join our Star Trek Online family community and we hope even more that you decide to join one of our fleets. Should you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to contact me directly at Info@LibertyTaskForce.com. Once again thank you for considering us. Take care.

Best Regards,
-Jose a.k.a Grayfox

NOTE: During some of these missions, you will be playing the role of your characters counterparts from the Mirror Universes.

Mirror Wars 1 (2409) - takes place after the events of the original Mirror Universe missions from the Cardassian Arc, which were removed when season 11 arrived. If you are unfamiliar with them, fear not I have brought them back with the foundry.
Mirror Wars 2 (2410) - takes place after the Iconian War during the Terran Empire's invasion of the Federation lead by Admiral Leeta.
A Mirror Tale (2410) - takes during the events of Mirror Wars 2, however the player is taking on the role of their prime universe (Federation) characters, combating against the Terran Empire.
Mirror Wars 3 (2410) - takes place several weeks after the events of Mirror Wars 2, dealing with the aftereffects of the Temporal Cold War, from the perspective of the Terran Empire.

-Redux- Tear of the Prophets
-Redux- Crack in the Mirror
-Redux- The Other Side

(Note: These above three missions were created by Cryptic Studios, Mirror Wars 1 is a continuation of these mirror themed missions. All I've done is brought them back, and tried to 'spice' them up a bit.)

Ever since the Update has gone live for Xbox One I am running in to constant situations of the game freezing, locking up, and becoming unresponsive. Each time I am forced to abandon the game and go to Xbox dashboard, quit, and reload the game. This is rendering the game essentially unplayable. This is happening with several PVEs and a few Captain/Doff/Ship abilities across all 4 of my characters. Two examples are:
Battle of Procyon V (random intervals)
Console - Universal - Defensive Drone Guardians (whenever triggered)
