Just realised this guy may be one of the most egocentric people we've met in the game, so far.
Basically the only reason why he didn't want to destroy the Tox Uthat, is that the incident in orbit of the Lukari's homeworld is the main reason this guy even exists.
If the Vorgons hadn't stolen the device from him, the Tholians * wouldn't have gotten it and the Lukaari would never have been noticed, or at least their existence would have been less important and not attract the attention of the Empire and the Federation. If this never happened, or if it happened at a later time, Kal Dano's ancestors - we know that they are members of different species including Vulcan, Human and Lukaari - would likely not have met.
It would also change the entire Temporal Cold War. Which means that it would, most likely, also prevent the Temporal Accords from being signed so it might result in more chaos but at least the entire Na'kuhl species would not have been the victim of Kal Dano's stupid actions and his selfish motivations.
* The Tholians, btw, may just be ensuring that this temporal loop is maintained - thus enforcing the Temporal Accords as they said they would do. We know their understanding of time travel is much more sophisticated. I have a feeling that we're fighting the wrong enemies.
